It’s me! I’m back! And I’ve brought with me a crochet pattern 🥰
I love the Smollen in Destiny 2, and I made one a while back so that I could have one of my own. I decided that I wanted to share the love, so I started working on different versions of the pattern and finally figured out a pattern that I’m happy with. I’ve spent a few months working on it on and off, and finally decided this weekend that I was going to sit down and get it finished. I’ve spent 16 hours in the last few days making a few copies of it and testing the pattern for accuracy and clarity, and I’m finally comfortable releasing it. My dream is for this to become a pattern that is appreciated by cosplayers and Destiny 2 fans that want a fun buddy or a little extra for their cosplay.
And! As a bonus! I received an acceptance email to the Premier Yarns Affiliate Program, which is my preferred yarn for this project! If you’re interested in purchasing yarn for this project (like Premier Parfait), consider using my link before you buy! I do receive a commission on purchases when people use this link.
There is a PDF version of this pattern on my Ko-fi for free if you’re interested. It has more details and additional pictures.

Pattern
The Smollen is worked in the round. I use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round, and also to mark the first and last back loop of split rounds.
Body
Row 1: 6 single crochet (sc) into a Magic Ring (MR) (6)
Row 2: 6 increase (inc) around (12)
Row 3: *1 sc, inc* around (18)
Row 4: *1 sc, inc, 1 sc* around (24)
Row 5: *3 sc, inc* around (30)
Row 6: *2 sc, inc, 2 sc* around (36)
Row 7: *5 sc, inc* around (42)
Row 8: sc around (42)
Row 9: Place a marker in the back loop of the first stitch of the previous round. Sc in the front loop only of each stitch around (42)
Row 10-11: Sc around. (42) For row 11, I do a slip stitch instead of a single crochet in the very last stitch.
After round 11, slip stitch into the top of the next stitch. You can either cut a long tail, weave in the end, and then attach new yarn to the back loop that you marked in row 9. Or (this is the method I use), you can slip stitch into the back of the first sc in rows 11 and 10 and then sc in the marked back loop from row 9 to start the next round.
Row 12: Starting in the back loop marked in row 9, sc around in the back loops from that row. I turn the work inside out and fold the lip formed in rows 10-11 to make the back loops more visible. (42)
Row 13: sc around (42)
Row 14: *3 sc, inc, 3 sc* around (48)
Row 15: sc around (48)
Row 16: *7 sc, inc* around (54)
Row 17: sc around (54)
Row 18: Repeat row 9 (54)
Row 19-20: Repeat row 10-11 (54)
Row 21: Repeat row 12 (54)
Row 22: *7 sc, dec* around (48)
Row 23: sc around (48)
Row 24: *3 sc, dec, 3 sc* around (42)
Row 25: sc around (42)
Row 26: Repeat row 9. slip stitch into top of first sc (42)
Row 27: In the back loops from row 26, 14 sc. Switch to black and 14 sc. Switch back to main body color and 14 sc. (42)
Row 28-30: 14 sc, switch to black and 14 sc. Switch back to body color and 14 sc (42)
Row 31: *5 sc, dec* 2 times in body color. switch to black and *5 sc, dec* 2 times. Switch back to body color and *5 sc, dec* 2 times. (36)
Row 32: *2 sc, dec, 2 sc* around (30)
Stuff the body.
Row 33: *3 sc, dec* around (24)
Row 34: *1 sc, dec* around (16)
Row 35: decrease around (8)
Cut a long tail and use it to cinch the hole closed. Weave in the end.
Hood
Using main color yarn, insert your hook into the stitch that divides the facial color and the body color in row 27, just above the last ridge made (fig. A).
Leave a long tail and surface single crochet straight up from row 27 to row 32, and then turn your hook so you can continue stitching along row 32 to the other side of the face. You can insert your hook where the body color of each stitch begins and exit where it ends (Fig. C)
Once you reach where the facial color meets the body color again, go straight down to row 27. Leave a long tail, and then use a yarn needle to stitch the tail from each side into the ridge created in round 26.
Eyes
Using blue, insert your yarn needle one stitch over and one stitch down on the top right side of the face. Skip one stitch in the lower left direction and exit with your needle (Fig D). Re-enter where you originally put in your needle to make one pass with the yarn. Repeat so you have two visible strands of yarn.
With your needle back inside the head, cross to the opposite side of the face, one stitch down and one stitch to the right of the face. Insert the needle in that stitch and exit one stitch away in the lower right direction. Re-enter in the first hole and make one pass with your yarn.
In the same row as the bottom of the small eyes, skip two stitches and exit your needle in the third stitch. Go directly down two stitches and insert your needle to make the first large eye. Pass the yarn through four times total to make the eye larger. When you insert your yarn on the fourth strand, skip four stitches to the right and exit the head in line with the other large eye. Repeat your passes.
Once the eye has four strands, you can exit the yarn through the same stitch that you entered in the very beginning of the eyes.
Knot the beginning tail to the ending tail, and push the knot inside the head.
Thank you for trying out my pattern! If you complete your own smollen, I’d love to see it! You can tag @semebay on instagram or @semsational.gg on bluesky, and/or use the hashtag #semsational!
