Blog

It’s been a while. We’re gonna actually utilize this blog

So I’ve been away. Kind of. I’ve made a couple patterns recently, and been putting up youtube videos, so I’ve been active in places. Now I need to work on other things that I have planned but haven’t put into play quite yet My big plan is to track weekly life and project changes here, and if it doesn’t turn out being updated weekly, eh. Life happens, it’s not a huge deal. The streaming activities will mostly remain in the community discord, as those change often enough that having them listed out on my personal blog would be silly. But I have a lot of projects going on, so we won’t be wanting for things to follow.

Road to PAX East

7 Months to Me (7MtM)

7MtM is my latest go at losing weight and general self improvement and care, and it’s part of my PAX East project (more further down on that). I’ve switched to a new medication that should help with weight loss, and I’ve made some pretty decent changes to my eating habits (exercise is still a struggle, but I try!). The goal is to record a weekly vlog (unpublished) for 30+ weeks, and after we attend PAX East, if we’re happy with the results, we’ll compile all the vlogs into one video to track our changes and watch the slow but steady progression into a healthier and happier me. It’ll be a long face reveal, that reveals a lot of faces and changes over 7 months.

Right now I’m averaging .5-1kg of weight loss a week, and I’m not sure how sustainable that is, but I’m happy with the changes after plateauing for so long. In 10 weeks I’d like to post a recap of my changes (that will be 5 weeks from now), and give some more detailed information on the methods I’m using for weight loss. I’m “bad” some days, but every day is a fresh start and I don’t want to spiral because something minor wasn’t perfect.

Pin Trading for Newbies by a Newbie

Exactly what the title says: I’m putting together my PAX pins and figuring out what I would “price” them as for trading purposes, and I want to make a video detailing that process and also provide information on how the pin trading went at my last PAX (2025). This may also tie into trinket trading – something new that was introduced at PAX West this year, and might end up at PAX East. I’m keeping a close eye on the PAX events so I can keep up with announcements and when information becomes live, so that project will depend on what events they have at East.

PAX Outfit Prep

This is what I’m currently most excited for! I’ve made a bag already to cart around some fun trinkets for trading (they’re a set of my emote pins with a business card, for a bit of networking but also friendly trading), and now comes the costume!

As I said above, I’m currently losing weight, so I can’t reliably make clothing or a costume right now (I’m planning to start the outfits themselves in January or February), but I can make accessories! Right now I have 3 concrete plans: The Seraphel Cape (pattern releasing next month); a mossy shrug based off rhosgobel’s pattern; and a guardian outfit from Destiny 2 (pictured below). The goal is to build them around the mushroom hat (below), and using the moss texture that I’ve been working on with yarn recommended by rhosgobel’s pattern.

I’ve started on the fabric from the guardian outfit for the waist – I can’t start on the fitted armor, but I can make the accessories! I’m writing down notes as I make the pattern, and I’ll be buying EVA foam and materials/tools for when I get to January and need to start working on the actual fit. For now, I’m working on that waist fabric using crochet and the moss from the example above, and I’ve ordered some cotton webbing and latches so I can start working on how everything will fit together. I need to get some large sheets of paper and do some drawing to finalize the design before I really get started, but it feels fun to start things.

On the road – PAX East

The final set of videos for PAX East (pre-7MtM) will be final prep videos. Packing, getting the car ready, showing off my PAX outfits and my tech bag. I’ll be utilizing my instagram for stories and videos related to PAX during the event, but most of the filming will be on my DJI and will be edited and published once I’m home and have a few weeks put everything on youtube.

One of my goals is to grab a Creator Badge for PAX, but if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t change anything. I’m still going to attend and I’m still going to make a ton of fun videos (I love editing).

For the Now

For now, I have a list of things I need to do for Youtube. I have to edit my video for the Yardgoods store in Waterville, Maine. I have to put together videos for the games Tales of Tonbrook and Bottled By Bears. I need to get some shorts created for Tuesday uploads. I need to make a YT short advertising the Apex Shield Cell and the Lighter. I need to get ready for the Fiber Festival of New England, which is in 3 and a half short weeks. And I want to make some mossy decorations for my office. And in two hours I’m co-streaming the Cozy After Dark Showcase on Twitch.

For a first blog in a long while, I think this is a good way to start. I’m setting up the expectations, and in the coming weeks (and weeks and weeks) I’ll give updates on project progress, and maybe share my pattern notes while I’m working.
